Section Playoffs – Game One

Game one of the Section Playoff was played at Johansen High School in Modesto Tuesday night. While it was cold, we still had a great showing of support. And that support helped the Oakmont Vikings defeat the Johansen Vikings in a 4-2 upset.

Oakmont was ranked number 9 and Johansen was ranked number 8. After a melee in front of the Oakmont goal led to a quick score by Johansen 5 minutes in and another off a PK 10 minutes later, Oakmont fans were a little concerned. But luckily, the Varsity Oakmont Vikings stayed strong and pro their worth. A foul against Zwannah (Z) Johnson led to a PK which was converted with authority by Noah Collins. Less than a minute later, a loose ball off a bad trap by Johansen was recovered by Josh Golka, with a pass to Z, who found the back of the net to tie the game up.

The first half ended 2-2, but the Oakmont Vikings never looked back. Scoring two more unanswered goals in the second half, one by Luis Sanchez and the other by Z, gave our Vikings the win, and the chance to play in round two against Central Valley.

Game time is 6:00 PM, and will be played at Patterson High School in Patterson. Be sure to come on out and cheer for the boys again as they take on another strong opponent Thursday night, a long way from home.

Congratulations boys, and Good Luck!

Go Vikes.

League Champs! 7-0-3

They did it! Congratulations to the Men’s Varsity Team this year for their hard work and dedication. It has all paid off with a league record of 7 wins, 0 losses and 3 ties, making them the only undefeated team in the Foothill Valley League, and undisputed League Champs!

Now we move on to the post season, which has been elusive for Oakmont Men’s Soccer for quite a while. But with this squad, and their work ethic on and off the field, we have a lot of faith in them. Coach Tom was quoted as saying: “I think this team can go all the way…If we keep doing what we have been doing and play Oakmont soccer, can definitely do that.” Post season starts Tuesday, February 12. Game time to be determined still. But check the website for updates.

And congratulations to Zwannah Johnson, for 23 goals this year, #1 in the league and 13 more than #2. Shoutout also to Josh Golka for being league leader in assists with 11, #2 came in at 5.

This year, the Girls Varsity team also made playoffs. Both teams could use the support from the stands, so check out the schedules, come to the games, and we will see you there!
